What if today was the last day? What if you knew that there would be no tomorrow, that sudden death and destruction were upon you? What if it was just your last day, as you sit in a hospital bed, knowing that death is about to come?
How many people go through out life knowing that they have to be right before God, but not ever spending the time to figure out exactly how to do that? Many people believe that there is a God, yet why will they not give Him the time of day to figure out what He requires of them?
“For man does not see as He sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks at the heart.” 1st Samuel 16:7b
Man’s logic is backwards. How many hours will be spent not only watching television, but watching a rerun that you have already seen, yet not picking up God’s Word and seeking Him? Do you not realize that the nagging feeling that you have about getting right with God is His warning to you that you ought to seek Him and find Salvation through His Son before it is too late?
“The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness, but is longsuffering toward us, not purposing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2nd Peter 3:9
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I Jehovah search the heart, I examine the soul, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.” Jeremiah 17:9-10
…”if you say, Behold, we did not know it; does not He who ponders the heart consider it? And the Keeper of your soul, does He not know it? And shall He not repay to a man according to his deeds?” Proverbs 24:12
So what would men do knowing that they are nearly out of time? There is a consensus out there nowadays where many people think we are in the last days and that some sort of destruction is going to come upon the Earth. In fact, many people even believe that it will be well deserved, yet they themselves think to be able to skirt such destruction. In the face of these theories do they lay prostrate on the ground before the Almighty in repentance, seeking to do His will or do they continue on with their lives, living in sin and refusing to repent before their Maker?
“And in that day Jehovah of Hosts called for weeping and mourning, and for baldness, and for girding with sackcloth. But behold, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine, saying, Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” Isaiah 22:12-13
“Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” 1st Corinthians 15:32b
If today were the last day and men knew it, violence would unfold. Probably more crime would take place today then would have happened in all of history until that point. People would finally get their big screen television. The neighbor’s wife that the man next door had been lusting over for years, would be forcefully taken. The ongoing feud between two people would finally end up with one of them lying dead on the ground. Stores would quickly run out of alcohol. People would spend all of their money at a casino and not even care. There would yet be another group also.
Those who consider themselves religious would run to their churches and spend time in prayer, works and idolatry, trying to ensure that they would go to Heaven. Suddenly the pagan statues of Mary would be surrounded with many pointless trinkets, valuable items and prayers written on notes as people would scramble to do all they think they could do prior to destruction. Other churches would have special meetings and get spirit-filled, supposedly in the name of Jesus, only in reality calling on demons to further manifest their deception as the members babble endlessly in demonic tongues. Pastors at larger churches would be pushing their deception to the max about how God desires their members to give all that they have to the church. The pastors would be groveling over the amount of wealth that they were acquiring, secretly hoping that the Lord would not come back and they might be able to spend all of their gain on their lusts. Despite God’s just judgment coming, they would not listen.
“They struck me, but I was not hurt; they beat me, but I did not feel it. When I awake, I will ask for more; to do it again.” Proverbs 23:35
Indeed the world would scramble to make mends with some of their family members and friends, where the relationships had gone sour, but in the end the world would still refuse to acknowledge the Most High and would continue on with their sins, demanding that a just God eradicate them from the Earth and commence judgment. Men would party like there is no tomorrow, doing all of their lusts, evil would abound and scarcely would there be a man who would be on the ground before Jehovah God begging for His mercy, knowing that the coming destruction was just and deserving.
“And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has authority over these plagues; and they did not repent to give Him glory.” Revelation 16:9
“And they blasphemed the God of Heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.” Revelation 16:11
“But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not do homage to demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which are not able to see nor hear nor walk. And they did not repent of their murders nor their sorceries nor their sexual perversions nor their thefts.” Revelation 9:20-21
The future has already been prophesied by God. Most men will not repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.
So what about you? Are you going to continue to put off that nagging or are you going to listen to His voice and seek Him while He can still be found.
“Seek Jehovah while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to Jehovah, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says Jehovah. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:6-9
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Jehovah ponders the hearts.” Proverbs 21:2
