Reminders of Hollywood

“Therefore thus says Jehovah, Behold, I will drive you from off the face of the earth. You shall die this year, because you have taught rebellion against Jehovah.”  Jeremiah 28:16

 

“Do not be led astray: Evil company corrupts good character.”  1st Corinthians 15:33

 

“You shall not follow the majority in doing evil;”…  Exodus 23:2a

The Bible talks about a coming time of God’s just justice coming to the world and to that which is called Babylon (Revelation 17 – 19).  Part of that entity includes the arts, which would therefore include Hollywood. 

(Side Note: “They shall come upon you in their fullness for the multitude of your sorceries, and for the great power of your enchantments.”  Isaiah 47:9  This is also speaking of the same entity in Revelation 17 & 18.

Now consider the ‘great power of your enchantments’ and ponder what has happened to our society.  This isn’t just the movies, but we must remember that when God’s Word states something, it is 100% accurate, absolute truth and in our minds we have the tendency to believe His Word, yet still harvest disbelief.

Just as I believed when I was younger that evil communication would corrupt good manners, I added an * to that belief.  I thought that because I knew better and was smarter than that, that it did not apply to me.  No rather, let God be true (Romans 3:4) for it did matter and I was the one who was becoming corrupted. 

So too, I have heard that the music industry, back when the now revived vinyl industry had it’s stronghold on American culture, the albums by artists when they were completed would have a group of satanist bless the album prior to being released.  To be honest, I believe that to be reliable information from what I have read. 

We forget and must not that these industries are ABSOLUTELY INTENTIONALLY working on behalf of Satan as part of a war against God and they are causing masses of people to end up in Hell at the end of their lives.  So let us not simply read over the sorceries and enchantments assuming there is nothing of substance to it.  While we might not know the fullness, nor are we supposed to, let us simply believe God and His Word and realize that it is in all reality numerous times worse than we could imagine and God’s Word is truer than we consider.  *** END SIDE NOTE ***

While these same things could be said about the entertainment industry as a whole, music, movies, television and now the internet (as well as written media, video games, civic theatre & photography) for the sake of this brief article, the focus is going to be on Hollywood, in fact the most recent Barbie movie.

I haven’t seen the movie and have no intention on seeing it, but I have heard that it has a lot of things that are hard for younger children to understand, however, these points, which are against the Word of God are indeed planting seeds of rebellion against our Creator.  What Hollywood has done is taught rebellion against God.

The major movies that come out across the movie screens, smartphones, streaming services, DVD’s, Blu-Rays and television screens all portray a message.  While some are better than others, I myself having seen numerous films when I was young, they act as change agents to society, of which I can attest.

When I was in high school there would be movies (sometimes television programs) that would come out and in there might be some sort of new oddity that would be shocking and funny.  You can better be sure that us guys would all be acting it out for quite some time at school or even outside of school, these ideas that were taught to us were mimicked by us.  A basic monkey see-monkey do scenario.  As Bob Jones University used to put it, garbage in=garbage out. 

So you have ideas about life, philosophies, evils, agendas, immoralities, things people would NEVER have thought about on their own or seen with their own eyes (or heard with their ears) entering into their minds.  This is a very dangerous thing.  One should eschew watching movies the same as hanging out with a bad crowd of people, the evil communication is certainly going to be corrupting and will corrupt good character.  For you ARE being communicated to.

As the recent helloween holiday has passed, there was a group of people who opted to dress up as Barbie’s.  This serves as a reminder the culture popularity and the effects on society regarding modern day entertainment.  If you want to be terrified, understand that the younger generation watches hours of tiktok videos per day, some of them filling their minds with horrific short video clips all day long, every day. 

I have an old book that was recommended from a pastor whom I know.  The book is entitled Worshippers of the Silver Screen by Lester F. Sumrall.  I estimate the book to be around 100 years old and it is from a Christian man who warned about the movie theatres as they were first coming out and changing society.  For those who don’t believe that the entertainment industry doesn’t affect our society, are you blind?  Do you not know what has happened over the past few generations?

Speaking to people and introducing truths are what is needed, these sort of things to show people what God’s Word says compared to what they are being fed.  Let me end with giving an example from the book of Nehemiah.

“Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they commanded Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which Jehovah had charged Israel.  So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women, and all who could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.  And he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.  So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform of wood which they had made for the purpose; and beside him, at his right hand, stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; and at his left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.  And Ezra opened the book in the eyes of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up.  And Ezra blessed Jehovah, the great God. Then all the people answered, Amen, Amen! while lifting up their hands. And they bowed down and prostrated themselves before Jehovah with their faces to the ground.  Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, helped the people to understand the Law; and the people stood in their place.  So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.  And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, This day is holy to Jehovah your God; do not mourn nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the Words of the Law.  Then he said to them, Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of Jehovah is your refuge.  So the Levites quieted all the people, saying, Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved.  And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the Words that had been declared to them.”  Nehemiah 8:1-12

Here was a people who had forgotten God’s Word, yet they heard, understood and were glad, showing true repentance towards God for their rebellion against their Creator. 

The problem is that the reminders of Hollywood are constantly being heard around the world.  These teachers of rebellion against God are pushing their teachings into the hearts of viewers all over the earth.  What God’s people must do is preach His Truth, whether or not they will hear and continue to do so until Christ comes (Matthew 24:46). 

“You shall speak My Words to them, whether they will hear or whether they will forbear, for they are most rebellious.”  Ezekiel 2:7
