Build A Wall

“Therefore, take heed to do as Jehovah your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.”  Deuteronomy 5:32   “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.  Turn away from you the crooked mouth, and put perverse lips far from you.  Let your eyes look straight ahead, and let your eyelids look straight before you.  Ponder the path of your feet, then all your ways will be established.  Do not turn to the right hand or to the left; remove your foot from evil.”  Proverbs 4:23-27   Recently there has been a lot of talk regarding building a wall on our border with Mexico.  Our entire government is under a partial shutdown and many people say this stalemate could last a long time.  The differing of opinions is great in regards to how to secure our southern border.  However, rather than have a long dialogue over the ins and outs of what is currently occurring in the United States, I will leave such discussions to those who are already pounding their pulpits regarding this ordeal.   As Christians, I wonder how many of us have built a wall around our hearts in regards to wholeheartedly following God and not allowing sin to enter our lives.  I ponder how many of our churches in this once great land still have a solid wall of separatism from the world and false doctrine.    Just as we have those who call for wide open borders, a global citizenship approach, likewise we have those calling for wide open...

Horror!

“By the Word of Jehovah were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.  He gathers the waters of the sea like a heap, and designates the depths in storehouses.  Let all the earth fear Jehovah; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.  For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.  Jehovah brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He restrains and frustrates the devices of the people.  The counsel of Jehovah stands forever, the thoughts of His heart from generation to generation.  Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah; the people He has chosen for His possession.  Jehovah looks down from Heaven; He watches all the sons of mankind.”  Psalms 33:6-13   There was an incident that occurred in Montana, where an employed man of a fast food joint groped the back half of a young boy in the restroom.  While the situation could have been worse, the police were called and he was arrested.  They found a very inappropriate drawing in his possession and his mugshot appeared in the local news.  While justice is being served and indeed it should be, the facial express on the man’s face is one of pure horror.    He’s been caught, he is going to pay the penalty for his crime.  Apparently he lost all self control and being enslaved by sin, a servant of the devil, he was caught amidst the maddening deed.  Horror having engulfed him, he now is aware that his sin has caught him, justice awaits.    …“you...

And Then?

“But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.  For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.  For when they say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall by no means escape.  But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.  You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.  Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.  For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.  But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.  For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,  who died for us, that whether we watch or sleep, we should live together with Him.  Therefore encourage each other and build up one another, just as you also are doing.”  1st Thessalonians 5:1-11   It seems good to take another look at the North Korean ordeal.  This topic had been covered a decent amount in the past and I have watched for many months the ongoings of this peace deal that was supposedly struck between the United States and North Korea.  There have been bits of information that has slowly been coming out...

The Ultimate Gift

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Romans 6:23   This time of year people are busy purchasing gifts to give to others.  The other day was a very busy mailing day at the local post office in Kalispell, Montana, the line being, as expected, very long.  A lot of people have high hopes of getting some of the things that they have asked for or stated that they would like to receive, especially children.    In much of the world the same thing goes on, with some different varieties.  Despite the fact that the Savior was very highly likely not born on the 25th of December, people nonetheless purpose to celebrate such an occasion, due to historical reasons that they are unaware of.    Many people this time of year write about putting ‘Christ back in christmas’, but in those regards, I would be the oddity to suggest that Christ should never be involved with such a mass.  You can read more about the origins of many holidays with the link on the right hand side of the homepage, clicking on the book Holy Days to download a free ebook.  For the purpose of this, the discussion will be simply looking at the vanity of humanity in the pursuits that are undertaken by the masses, verses the free gift that God has made available to all.   What qualifies as a good gift?  Thoughtfulness, overall value, necessities or something else?  Well, there is not one standard answer for such things, but both would be determined...

Are We Not Yet Destroyed?

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”  Hosea 4:6a   “Behold, is it not of Jehovah of Hosts that the people labor only to feed the fire, and nations weary themselves only for vanity.”  Habakkuk 2:13   The other day I noticed a click-bait advertisement for photos of life in the 1950’s.  Knowing history in the United States fairly well, I decided to see what exactly they were trying to push with such an article.    While going through it, I noticed that they spent some time discussing how easy it was for a one income family back in the 1950’s to purchase a home and pay it off.  Now my family history has an oddity to it, as my father was much older than the average father.  So for many years, until his death, I heard of stories of how things worked back when he was young.   Growing up in northern Michigan, I also got my hands on a book about the Hedrick family of Harbor Springs, who offered a very good first hand account of the early settler days in that region of the state.  While that was in the late 1800’s, still the accounts of everyday life for the average person was somewhat similar.    At 40 years old, I have had discussions with my friends for many years regarding the cost of living, verses trying to carve out a niche in the world.  When I was younger I had aspirations to go to college and get a degree in meteorology.  There were a lot of things that my wife and I talked about...

Suddenly, But Not Without Warning

“But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.  For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and did not realize until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.  Then two will be in the field: one is taken and the other is left.  Two will be grinding at the mill: one is taken and the other is left.  Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord comes.  But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief comes, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be dug through.  Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man comes at an hour you do not expect.  Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made administrator over his household, to give them food in due season?  Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.  Truly, I say to you that he will appoint him as administrator over all his possessions.  But if that wicked servant says in his heart, My master delays his coming, and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not expecting him and in an hour he does not know, and will cut him...

Could it be?

A much bigger portion of the Holy Scriptures being used to open an article than normal.  However, sometimes in order to have a full understanding this is necessary.   “And the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.  When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon and set it next to Dagon.  And when those of Ashdod arose early the next day, behold, Dagon was fallen on his face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah. So they took Dagon and put him back on his place.  And when they arose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. The head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were broken off on the threshold; only Dagon’s torso was left to him.  Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.  And the hand of Jehovah was heavy upon those of Ashdod, and He ravaged them and struck them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territories.  And when the men of Ashdod saw how it was, they said, The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for His hand has been severe upon us and Dagon our god.  Therefore they sent and gathered to themselves all the rulers of the Philistines, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the...

Christ Won the Battle

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”  Isaiah 5:20   “Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?”  James 3:11   The mid-term elections are upon us and about the time this article is published, the outcome will be known.  Here in Montana there are record breaking amounts of people who have already voted and registered.  I heard that in Texas the voting there for young adults was 500% more than the last mid-term election.  Truly it seems that this election is a battle between good and evil.     For years it has been said that our two-party system is a left-right paradigm.  I somewhat agree, but also somewhat disagree.  Fifty years ago a Christian could have legitimately voted democratic, but nowadays?  For me, as a Christian, I would never vote for someone who is for abortion, quite simply because God’s Word is quite clear that life begins at conception.  Abortion is murder, there is no doubt about it.      “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”  Jeremiah 1:5     “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.”  Psalms 139:13     “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was...

Ducks Quack

“And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”  2nd Corinthains 5:15   “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.  A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.  Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”  Matthew 7:13-23   We spent a couple of weeks going over what is means to be an...

Examples, Part 2

“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.  And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.  I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”  1st Corinthians 9:24-27   “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 6:11   So we have gotten through knowing that we are to be examples, now what?  What are we supposed to do?  How are we supposed to live?  What are the biblical examples of our faith and how we are to conduct ourselves?    “For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.”  1st Corinthians 3:9   When it comes to sports, I’ve never been much of a good competitor.  When I was younger I played Little League for years, I was on the basketball team in school for one season, as well as the soccer team.  While I still enjoying shooting hoop, playing against those who are also not team players, certainly my aim is not as good as it should be.  With bicycling I had a different story.   When I was young I used to be an average bike rider, that...

Examples

“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”  1st Timothy 4:12   “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.”  Philippians 3:17   “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”  Philippians 4:9   We have an ongoing battle going on in our nation, in our homes, in our education system and even in our churches.  Our country is split, largely amongst party lines, violence has begun and quite honestly some of the things that are happening in this country are quite frankly embarrassing from a worldwide standpoint.  The United States of America is becoming a circus show with spectators from around the world mocking us.  Our households are not much better.  While America still at the moment claims to be a Christian nation, what sort of example are we showing to the world?   America has a high divorce rate and problems abound in our households.  Detail after detail could be given, but quite honestly the average American household is so far away from God in their day to day activities, that the sum of the matters would be living contrary to God and denying or refusing to adheed to what the Bible teaches regarding God’s moral standards.  The world watches our television shows and movies, which unfortunately often depict the sin in our households, just what type of example are we...

Eternal Sentence

“And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”  Daniel 12:2   “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.  And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”  Revelation 20:10-15   “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”  Hebrews 9:27-28   Not too long ago our family traded in our car and purchased a truck. ...

On the Edge of a Cliff

“And as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, without sin, unto salvation.”  Hebrews 9:27-28   “And many of those sleeping in the earth’s dust shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproach and everlasting abhorrence.”  Daniel 12:2   “There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end of it is the ways of death.”  Proverbs 14:12   There are a lot of cliffs in Montana.  Some could consider them to be dangerous, others could see no problem with them.  Whenever my family and I are out in the backcountry, we will not go up to the edge of a cliff, yet I have seen others who will sit right on the edge of a cliff that has a freefall that would cause instant death.    There isn’t necessarily anything wrong with sitting on the edge of a cliff.  However, from time to time you hear of people who lost their footing and fall from the cliff, to their deaths.  Accidents certainly do happen and from my family’s perspective, if you stay several feet away from the edge, there is no chance of accidentally falling off.  Sure the view isn’t as great, the awesomeness of looking down and seeing the sights from the edge of the cliff are missed, but the danger is avoided.  Now the problem that people fail to recognize is that each individual, without Christ, is on the edge of...

Bought With A Price

“For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”  1st Corinthians 6:20   One thing that many Christians seem to forget is that they were bought with a price.  Before we dwell further on some of the ramifications of what this means, let’s take a look at what the Bible tells us about that price.   “And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”  1st John 2:2   “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Romans 6:23   “But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.”  Isaiah 53:5   Let’s examine this biblical foundational truth that is so often neglected or rather taken lightly.  In a modern day culture where biblical truths are hated and everything else is tolerated, it makes no difference how to approach this great truth.  Those who hate God will still be dead in their sins.  Having been bought with a price is contrary to the world’s philosophies of self.    “While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.”  2nd Peter 2:19   Imagine you owned a slave.  You bought this man or woman at a certain price.  Now whatever tasks that you had intended for this person to do, you...

Give Glory to God!

“Ascribe unto Jehovah, O you sons of God, ascribe unto Jehovah glory and strength.  Ascribe unto Jehovah the glory due His name; bow down before Jehovah in the beauty of holiness.”  Psalms 29:1-2   The other day there was a video that first went viral on our local media outlets here in Montana, finally spreading throughout the internet to a worldwide platform.  A lightning caused fire had started in Glacier National Park.  Quickly the fire spread out of control, leaving a couple of people stuck on a dead end road, at a campground in Glacier National Park.   These people decided to film there way driving at night through a forest on fire.  Really quite remarkable of a sight, as the trees on both sides of the single lane dirt road where eerily lit up with the fire of the trees.  The scene was quite eye-opening.    In Montana we often have wildfires, during the past few years they have been large and frequent.  This year, we have numerous less wildfires and the ones we have are much smaller than they have been, but we still have had a steady stream of smoke coming from fires in other states and Canada.  What these tourists experienced was a worse case scenario that shows the true wildness of Glacier National Park.   In the video that they took, you can hear two men having a conversation.  The one is telling the other to remain calm and continue to drive down the road, to try and escape the wildfire.  After all they are cornered in an area that requires immediate evacuation, there...
