Here’s a Million!

Recently a coworker told me that he would give me one-million dollars if he won the Powerball jackpot.  At the time the prize was 1.4 billion dollars, eventually making it to 1.6 billion dollars.   Indeed the largest jackpot in the history of mankind.  So much money that one would instantly be wildly rich and my coworker, like people throughout the entire country, was having conversations with others for days about what he would do with all of that money.  My response to him made him stop for a moment.   I replied that I did not want the money.  He shrieked out a “what do you mean you wouldn’t want it, a million bucks!?”  Exactly, I didn’t want it, I didn’t care.   Of course I have bills I could pay off, I could buy a house, I could do this or that, but what I could do at the moment is no longer stand to listen to such nonsense.  While the odds where overwhelming that this man would still just be a cook, with 1 in 292 million, the reality was that men and women just like him where having conversations and thoughts about what they would do should the money-gods be on their side.   He wasn’t alone, in fact I was the outsider, I was the one who didn’t care to participate in such worthless talk and the one who would honestly tell him to keep his money should he become the winner.  I replied to him that I wouldn’t take the money, I would simply give it away, it was a distraction, a hassle...

Now or Never?

The other day while at work I was having a brief conversation with a coworker who was discussing his plans for the future.  Having had talked to him about the need for Salvation in the past, he finished stating what he was going to say and I interjected about how even if he got everything he wanted he would still be lost and doomed, what then would it matter?   Instead of simply brushing it off, he responded that he would take care of that later in life, not now.  Right now he was going to live his life.  Well what if there is not a later time?  What if that day was the day of Salvation for him?  What if he had chosen the world over Christ and an opportunity to accept the Savior through repentance and believing into Him never again became available?   “For He says: In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.  Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”  2nd Corinthians 6:2   …”testifying both to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Acts 20:21   “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”  Matthew 16:26   The question is how many people go throughout life with the exact same philosophy.  They believe there is a God, they know that somehow they have to get right with Him,...

Be Faithful

“Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.  Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.”  1st Corinthians 4:1-2 What is required of a Christian?  As a Believer grows in Christ, more and more they will realize that the need for the armor of God is a very serious matter.  There is most certainly a war raging and the Christian must follow their Savior Jesus Christ. I would recommend Little Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, a book which may be read of no charge HERE. In America our persecution generally differs greatly from those in other countries.  For instance: Those who profess Christ in India and follow Him, as commanded, are often brutally murdered, their wives ravished and then also murdered and their children are no exception.  I have read of stories where Christian families are burned alive, as spectators revile in pleasure, pleasing their Hindu gods.  Despite the fact that there are apparently 330 million gods and goddesses, there is no room for the Most High and His Son. Travel to Syria and ISIS makes the news, now commonly known.  How many people who profess to serve Christ are beheaded?  This of course does not suggest how many are actually servants of the Most High, but certainly shows the militancy towards that. Yet not far away in neighboring Iran there are also prices to pay. Street justice comes and takes its form as a mob against those who proclaim to be Christians and would dare practice such religion.  Strong beatings, maiming, death and imprisonment are not...

All On The Altar

But we never can prove the delights of His love Until all on the altar we lay For the favor He shows, and the joy He bestows Are for them who will trust and obey   — Trust and Obey   This article will have minimum commenting.  The thought here is to provide some Scripture, some definitions and simply let those who know Christ to sit and ponder their ways.   “And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said to him, What is written in the Law?  How do you read it?  So he answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”  Luke 10:25-27   “Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God, Jehovah is one.  And you shall love Jehovah your God with all your heart, with all your soul, exceedingly in every way.  And these Words which I am commanding you today shall be in your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”  Deuteronomy 6:4-9   “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but...

Trappings!

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with giddiness, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come upon you unexpectedly.  For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.”  Luke 21:34-35   “For man also does not know his time; as the fish that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.”  Ecclesiastes 9:12   “For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks into a netting.  The snare takes him by the heel, and the noose takes hold of him.  A rope is hidden for him on the ground, and a trap for him in the path.”  Job 18:8-10   There are trappings everywhere, yet as this discussion begins, understand that without Jesus as your Lord and Savior you are already trapped, doomed and on your way to Hell.  Without Christ, all is lost, nothing is gain.   “But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss because of Christ.”  Philippians 3:7   There is a prevalence in society of drunkenness, drug abuse and a partying lifestyle associated with all sorts of sexual immorality and debauchery.  Even in small town America, hardly a week goes by without a high speed police chase, a stabbing, a shooting, a murder, armed robbery or some off the wall crime that is usually committed by someone who is on drugs, most commonly meth....

Avoiding Judgment?

Can a nation avoid the Judgment of the Almighty God?  Can any country on the face of the earth, dare to call itself a Christian country, yet behave in a blasphemous way forever?   “Am I a God near by, says Jehovah, and not a God afar off?  Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I shall not see him? says Jehovah. Do I not fill the heavens and earth? says Jehovah.”  Jeremiah 23:23-24   “And there is no creature that is not revealed in His presence, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must give answer.”  Hebrews 4:13   “These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.”  Matthew 15:8   “Therefore Jehovah said, Whereas this people draw near with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but have removed their hearts far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men; therefore, behold, I will again do among this people something extraordinary and wonderful.  For the wisdom of their wise ones shall perish, and the understanding of their intelligent ones shall be hidden.  Woe to those who are profound to hide their counsel from Jehovah!  And their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? And, Who knows us?  O your perversity!  Shall the former be esteemed as the potter’s clay; for shall the product say of him who made it, He did not make me?  Or shall the thing formed say to him...

Lies

Perhaps to become a student of history, one would really be a student of historical lies.  Many people have quoted that the winners write history and indeed it is true, but also the conquerors control the writings of men.  What happens when all of the books that someone reads are approved by the ‘winners’ or ‘conquerors’.   “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.  The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie.  It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”  Joseph Goebbels, Propaganda Minister for the Nazi Regime   People are easily manipulated, easily swayed.  Oftentimes people do not think for themselves, but go on with the ‘flow’ of things.  Yet if they would stop and look around, considering for a moment, then maybe their eyes would be open to the fact that much of what they consider truth is actually lies.   The debate rages on about so-called gun control.  Yet who is really behind this debate?  The big media?  The New York Times with their front page story about gun control and violence.  Who runs the New York Times or these other vain talking mouths that people watch day in and day out?  Our media is controlled, it is full of lies and nobody seems to...

In Subjection to Him

“Is there not one father to us all? Has not one Mighty God created us?”  Malachi 2:10a   “For I am a great King, says Jehovah of Hosts, and My name is feared among the nations.”  Malachi 1:14b   “And it shall be, that whoever will not go up from the families of the earth to Jerusalem to bow down before the King, Jehovah of Hosts, even upon them there shall be no rain.”  Zechariah 14:17   The distractions of this world are never ending.  Constantly we are bombarded with news about the latest trendy thing to do, some shooting somewhere, scenes of ill dressed women, sports clips, advertising to buy this and that.  The American Dream, the focus of many not just in America, but across the world is a HUGE distraction.  All too often we focus on what we can see, not what we cannot see with our eyes.   “For now we see through a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall fully know just as I also am fully known.”  1st Corinthians 13:12   Yet there are certain things that people do out of reverence and respect, social norms of society.  While there are some who refuse they partake in what is deemed acceptable, those people are considered social outcasts, misfits and evil people.   When it a courtroom is it acceptable to have an outburst causing the judge to warn that any further commotion will result in immediate removal from the courtroom and jail time?   While sitting in church, is it respectable, decent or...

Thanksgiving

thanks-giv’-ing, noun 1.) The act of rendering thanks or expressing gratitude for favors or mercies. 2.) A public celebration of diving goodness; specifically, Thanksgiving Day 3.) A form of words, as a grace, giving thanks to the Divine Being. General Thanksgiving; in the Book of Common Prayer, a form of thanks prescribed for the ordinary blessings of life. Thanksgiving day; specifically, in the United States, a day set apart each year by executive authority, for public thanksgiving and praise to God, and celebrated by religious and social festivities, particularly family reunions. The Great Thanksgiving; that part of early and Oriental liturgies giving praise to God for his (sic) great works, as the creation of the world and man.     By the President of the United States of America A Proclamation   Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and   Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”   Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all...

Be Doers, Not Just Hearers

“But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”  Jacob (James) 1:22   I don’t know how many times I would hear a great sermon, study the Word of God, have a Bible study or late night discussions with friends about God, Jesus, being a Christian, etc., with this nagging knowledge that there were many things that had to be cleaned up in my life.  Indeed I was a Christian, I was Saved, but I was living more like the world, there was sin in my life and I knew that one day I would have to stop and repent.   How many times does a Believer have to say that ‘I know I need to do that’?  God called us to be separate from this world and in Jesus Christ our lives are supposed to be His.  While we know that no man is perfect and none of us are without sin, we also know what God expects, what Christ did for us and should be well aware of how we ought to behave.  Yet it is sin that keeps us not producing much fruit or in some cases, not producing fruit at all for many years.   “Therefore, Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”  2 Corinthians 6:17   “I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you in Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything in Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ...

All to Stand

An individual accepts the gift of Salvation from their Creator, through repentance and believing into Jesus Christ their Savior, they now have become followers of Christ, they have become Christians.  Yet now the battle has just begun.   What is required of a Christian?  What characteristic attributes should be found in those who are in Christ?  What works are befitting those who are Saved?  Is it simply that an individual gets Saved and then goes on with their life as they did before, with the exception of now keeping the commands of God?   How does a Believer know what God desires?  How does one in Christ know what commands to keep?  Is it even possible for one who is Saved to continue on with little change in their life permanently?  Should not the one who was pardoned now spring forth into life, rejoicing at their liberty in Jesus, proclaiming that Salvation is through no other name?   A young boy is a regular amongst the elderly in Bucharest, Romania.  This lad helps old women with taking out their rubbish on a weekly basis. He does well in school and as he grows up is known to be a ‘good boy’.  Yet he is now a man and as a man who gets into partying with the other people his age.  In less than a year he is sitting in a smashed BMW awaiting the police to put handcuffs on him.  He is drunk, has made a girl who wants nothing to do with him pregnant, now is covered in tattoos and has just ran over two young children...

Do Not Be Partakers

“Therefore do not be partakers with them.”  Ephesians 5:7   So what happens when one finally comes to the realization of what being a Christian is really about and strives to follow Jesus wholeheartedly?  Suddenly nearly every church is wrong in many things, your neighbors, family, friends, acquaintances are also not doing what God commanded, they are not followers of Christ, they are lost, the unsaved.  What happens when you realize that you seem to be all alone?   A Christian is a disciple of Christ, we are to imitate His life, we follow Him.   “Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children.”  Ephesians 5:1   “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”  2nd Corinthians 5:17   “…You follow Me.”  John 21:22b   We should not look at what another Christian is doing, but we ourselves follow after Jesus, we do what He commands us to do.  One of those things we are commanded to do is to be separated from the world.   “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers.  For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness?  And what communion has light with darkness?  And what agreement has Christ with Belial?  Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols?  For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.  Therefore, Come out from among them and...

What is Truth?

The quality or state of being true; trueness, as (a) conformity to facts or reality, as of statements to facts, words, to thoughts, motives or actions to professions; exact accordance with what is, has been, or shall be; (b) the quality or state of being made or constructed true or exact; exact adherence to a model; accuracy of adjustment, exactness; (c) in the fine arts, the proper and correct representation of any object in nature, or of whatever subject may be under treatment; (d) habitual disposition to speak only what is true; veracity; freedom from falsehood; (e) honesty; sincerity; virtue; uprightness; (f) disposition to be faithful to one’s engagements; fidelity; constancy; (g) genuineness; purity.   2.) “Don’t Join Us!!!”

Quite a long time ago I was working in a dairy cooler training a younger employee to unload milk pallets.  Watching carefully for milk crates to come crashing down, that would send a deluge of milk toward us, our discussion went into Christianity.  We had talked before, but this time I didn’t bring up Salvation, he did.   Answering question after question I was fully explaining the Gospel and he was seemingly understanding it.  I thought perhaps he would make a decision for God.  Then the look came in his eyes, I knew he understood it, he knew…suddenly there was a large backlash.   “You mean to tell me that my family and friends who have died are in Hell!!!!”, followed by a bleepitly-bleep.  He had not asked about his friends or family, but when the sudden realization that without Jesus Christ as your Savior, without accepting Him, without repenting to God Almighty, one is deservingly condemned to Hell, became known to him, he had concluded such a fact.  Such a fact is hard for many to swallow, yet in it is truth, those without Christ, yes even those whom you loved, yet have died, are in Hell.  I stood there for a moment, a loss of words as he then stormed out of the walk-in cooler, slamming the door.   The remainder of the time I would work in that grocery store we would never again have a conversation.  While we would pass a few words between us, as necessary to complete our assigned tasks, there would be no conversation.  To my former friend I had become odious....

The Foundation is Christ

Editor:  This article was originally published in June of 2011 on a different website.    What is truly right or wrong?  Is homosexuality?  Is abortion?  Is stealing?  What about lying?  Cheating?  Adultery?  Drunkenness?  Who is to say what is right or wrong in your personal life?    Gay people are now ‘out of the closest’ so it must be alright?  If you should get pregnant and decide that you need to get a career first, is that really wrong?  What if you need some food and steal some because you are hungry or just want to save some money?  Everyone lies, so why not tell some lies here and there?  Cheating doesn’t ‘hurt’ anyone does it?  Your spouse doesn’t fulfill your desires or your marriage is not what you expected, so why not commit adultery?  How about drinking a twelve pack tonight, are you really hurting anyone else?  The above is moral relativism.    Moral relativism is related to situational ethics, where a particular situation will determine if an action is right or wrong.  According to situational ethics in some cases something that would normally be wrong may in that case be the right thing to do.  Moral relativism is where each individual or group of people determine what is right and wrong.  It is a ‘decide for yourself’ or ‘be yourself’ mentality.  Essentially you make up your ‘own’ rules.   In the past couple of generations the American education system as well as the entertainment industry has pushed heavily for moral relativism.  In fact it has gotten to be the norm that now to keep values that are...
